3.3.10.GR-iii.10 Subsidy of enterprises to create 1,500 jobs for older unemployed who are close to retirement age


3.3.10.1. Target group

The programme is targeted at all private- and public-sector enterprises that can offer dependent employment and concerns unemployed persons who are close to retirement age.

3.3.10.2. Legal Basis

Law 2434/96, Art. 1.

3.3.10.3. Contents

The scheme is open to older unemployed persons close to retirement age who have not yet accumulated the required number of contributory working days (up to 600) for entitlement to benefits and who are up to two years younger than the statutory retirement age under the general social security regulations.

The duration of participation ranges from one month (25 days' wages) to 24 months (600 days' wages).

A subsidy is granted for the following forms of employment:

  • - full-time employment of unemployed persons for 25 working days per month ; and
  • - part-time employment of unemployed persons from 4 to 7 hours daily and for 25 days per month.

    Amount of subsidy:

    Full-time employment:

  • - from the 1st to the 12th month the subsidy is GRD 6,000 per day;
  • - from the 13th to the 24th month the subsidy is GRD 7,000 per day.

    Part-time employment:

  • - from the 1st to the 12th month the subsidy varies from GRD 3,000 to GRD 5,300, depending on the daily working time (between 4 and 7 hours per day);
  • - from the 13th to the 24th month the subsidy varies from GRD 3,500 to GRD 6,200, depending on the daily working time (between 4 and 7 hours per day).

    Enterprises participating in the scheme must fulfil the following requirements:

  • - the enterprise must not have dismissed employees (without replacement) during the three months previous to submitting their application;
  • - the unemployed persons recruited must be registered in the OAED's special Live Unemployment Register for old-age unemployed.

    Unemployed persons participating in the scheme must fulfil the following requirements:

  • - Besides being registered with the OAED (see above), they must have Greek citizenship or be a citizen of any Member State of the EU, or be of Greek origin and be permanently resident in Greece.
